12 ways to bring the flamingo trend into your home

24 Jan 12 ways to bring the flamingo trend into your home

If you’re decorating scheme needs a leg up, take the flamingo road this summer as this bird with its extravagant sophistication; teasingly fits the bill.

Trends help to stretch our imagination a little and also push the boundaries of design. Not even pineapples or palm trees can rival the flamingo as this summer’s coolest, and by far, campest print.

While I don’t think I could live with a stuffed flamingo forever, a season or two with one of nature’s most flamboyant creations could be quite fun.

Once considered a very popular garden ornament in the late 1950’s, the flamingo has made a stylish comeback during Summer 2016/2017. And since we are all about tropical-inspired trends, we are more than ready to embrace this pretty-in-pink birdie.

On June 22, 2015, Don Featherstone, the inventor of the original plastic lawn ornament, died at the age of 79. The New York Times described the man who put a hot pink flamingo in the garden of millions of working-class families in the 60s as “indelibly altering the landscape of mid-century America”. His creation, first cast in Massachusetts, 1957, after a failed experiment with a duck, was venerated as “a flagrant totem of suburban satisfaction and, in later years, postmodern irony.”

With its pink feathers, slender neck and legs that go on forever, it is instantly recognisable as one of the most famous bird silhouettes on the planet. However, today it can be found on wallpaper, lampshades, dresses, cushions, curtains, crockery, shoes and bags.

Flamingos are an easy way to inject fun and personality into a scheme. The flamingo fad is a one-of-a-kind, statement-making addition to any space.

Have a look at some of the flamingo-inspired picks below for more inspiration and ideas on how to bring this trendy bird motif home.
